No matter what modern adaptations you need to your traditional urban bike, wehave a Dutch-inspired ride for you.

I feel there must be something wrong with it, otherwise I would have seen plenty of bikes like this already. In addition, they are equipped with everything a cyclist could want: quality lights, a storage rack, a kickstand and much more. While I realize a road bike with Dutch handlebars would not be accepted by my roadie friends, my hands do not care about that. Frame Shape - Traditional Dutch bikes were built with a wave-shaped frame, which dips down in front of the seatpost so that you can step over the bike easily. Today, you can find Dutch bikes made from aluminium to reduce their weight, as well as options for gearing. Their great popularity in the cities clearly shows that the classic Dutch bike model is far from ready for the scrap-heap yet.

Fitting different handlebars won't make any real difference, because you already find it hard to reach the flat part of the bars you have, and those will always be the closest part.

Traditional Dutch bicycles were mainly single-speed bikes with steel frames – there are few hills in Dutch cities, so there was little need for adaptations for climbing and descending. When you brake on the swept back bars, your hands are not pushed into the bar, as is the case with drop bars and (relatively) straight bars. Remember that theNetherlands is flat – if you live in a hilly city, a heavy steel frame with no gears may not be all that practical.

Bicycles Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for people who build and repair bicycles, people who train cycling, or commute on bicycles. I have used handlebars that are comfortable for me for daily commuting and city riding for over 65 years, been comfortable for day trips of over 100 miles too. One of the Chinese startups used the securities as capital and even in a fraudulent way to delay bankruptcy. Suitable for bikes: Urban Mover (26V) UM24 UM26S UM33X UM36 UM44 UM44L UM55 Emoto (26V) Velocity 26V Traveller 26V folding bike Ridge 26V Liberty 26V F4W (26V).For example, if you currently have drop handle bars, your levers are not going to (safely) fit on the handlebar you want to use. Having experimented recently with drop bars, trekking bars (of a sort) and upright bars (Albatross shape), one observation I have is a caution for those who still ride at speed regarding braking with the swept bars.

Also, if you're carrying stuff in a rucksack, you might be more comfortable with that load in panniers on the racks your bike already has. These have a width of 525 mm and a stem height which is quoted as 300 mm but which I measure as 280 mm. I am not 100% what the original poster of this answer meant with his answer so if the picture doesn't match his idea his/her input would be greatly appreciated, please let me know). On my city bike on the other hand, I sit almost upright due to my curved, "dutch-style" handlebar (see picture above). However, we offer one stem which can be used to change your position on a bike fitted with a threadless stem. I'm just afraid that on a bike as upright and compact as the Venture, the grip ends would end up positioned somewhere over my knees! As a rule, manufacturers rely on a combination of hub shift, brake pedal and fully closed chain case. As an alternative to the current brake/shifter configuration you could consider using bar end brake levers and install them on the top of the handlebars so you can easily reach them from a higher up (on the bars) hand position.
