Description

This was a great thriller with some good twists. The Author creates the needed suspension and storyline that will keep you reading until the end. Great premise to a story that will keep you guessing. I feel this book was cleverly done. Especially since the crime was similar to her father’s crimes. Is it a copycat or can someone be trying to get away with murder by using Jen? The Serial Killer’s Daughter by Alice Hunter is a psychological thriller, and the second in The Serial Killer's Family series.

I enjoyed the suspense and how the author has created a thrilling story with twists that hold up my interest at all times. Mostly because I really wanted to see for myself if my theory was right. And it was, and that’s a nice feeling. We’ll talk later,’ I say, smiling to reassure him. I need the next eight hours to come up with a suitable explanation – a reason why I’m feeling this way. One that doesn’t involve me telling him the truth. Chapter 4 JENNYHowever, despite a number of very positive aspects to the story it feels inconsistent. For instance, the tension rises and then drops and little momentum is achieved in my opinion. There’s not a lot of pace, the story seems flat and an exciting when it’s ought to be a jaw dropper and sadly it doesn’t achieve that response in me. This is partly due to points being over explained and we divert to things that don’t add a great deal to the storytelling. It’s repetitive in places too. And the crime is harrowingly similar to those her father committed all those years ago… But she’s not her father’s daughter. Is she? I will say though- this read started a bit slowly with a large build-up. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it resulted in me piecing together the plot twist a little more than halfway through. I wasn’t aware as to how it would play out though so it’s safe to say I was still hooked to the read. Whilst I really enjoyed it and was gripped throughout, the ending disappointed me as I saw the culprit coming from a mile off. I am rarely one to nail the perpetrator, and particularly from an early stage of the book, so this one didn't have the wow ending of the first book. But it’s not the first time she’s been so close to a crime scene. The daughter of a prolific serial killer, she’s spent her whole life running from who she really is.

I’ve been in a major reading slump for a year but this has pulled me right out of it. Every spare moment I had, I was reading this and staying up to the early hours. Be there in a minute. Can you hurry the kids along for me?’ I do my best to keep my voice steady, despite the fear rising within me. Why is my ring missing, and why is there mud under my nails? A great thrilling read. We all have family secrets but Jenny's is so dark. Her father really messed with her mind I am surprised that she is still so normal. Did not like Mark he was too weak for Jenny he needed to trust her more yes she wasn't completely honest but what he did was so wrong. It’s times like these I wish he’d made use of the ample space in our house to set up his office here – it would save a lot of bother as well as keep business costs down, but he was adamant he needed a place away from the home, somewhere he could separate his work and family life. So, for now, his workplace is in Exeter, about a forty-minute drive away. The plus with having my vet practice just on the outskirts of the village is that I’m there in minutes – no rush-hour traffic to cope with; no road diversions or traffic jams – so I usually take the kids. Because this morning hasn’t begun as planned, the early start is out of the window.I really enjoyed The Serial Killers wife, so I was so grateful to receive a copy of the next in the series The Serial Killers daughter. This is exactly the kind of book that you want to press into people’s hands and just say two words READ IT!’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Jen and Mark have had a few ups and downs in their marriage, mainly because of secrets, and the affair that Mark had a year ago with Olivia. In a sleepy Devon village, a woman is taken from the streets. Local vet Jenny is horrified. This kind of thing doesn’t happen here. But it’s not the first time she’s been so close to a crime scene. The daughter of a prolific serial killer, she’s spent her whole life running from who she really is. And the crime is harrowingly similar to those her father committed all those years ago… This has a good plot and is a great idea but is a little slow, even dragging in some places, and was a little underwhelming. I enjoyed the alternating point of view between Jenny and Mark, which works well. The opening chapter draws you in brilliantly as well. Both Jenny and Mark are hiding significant things, added to the extracts from Paul Slater’s story brings an extra element which will give you plenty of questions as well as the chills.

This story features the daughter of a serial killer (the clue is in the title) and the main character Jenny, has spent her life denying her past and trying to make amends for her father's crimes. I really enjoyed this story and listened to the audiobook over the course of a day. I was immediately drawn to Jenny and what she was going through. I honestly didn’t know whether I could trust her as a narrator or if she was truly innocent. Suffice to say there are lots of red herrings, misdirection’s and tension to keep the reader interested. Jenny herself makes some questionable choices, as does her husband. Jenny is the daughter of a serial killer. She is trying everything to make her past stay there, in the past. But someone is not letting her go. Now, our protagonist is a women in her 40’s and this read revolves around her, though it does have a few short chapters from two other perspectives. Her personality is pieced together so well and at a perfect pace! Her emotions were captured perfectly and I loved the ending she got.Jenny is married to Mark and mother to Ella, 8, and Alfie, 6. Mark works in IT and Jenny is a veterinarian. Jenny is hiding a dark past that compels her to go out at night and Mark doesn’t know what she does or where she goes. Actually, Jenny doesn’t remember what she does either. The book was a beauty. I just LOVED it. It was written in alternate chapters between Jenny and Mark, so almost felt like a conversation as opposed to a book. Several twists and questions arose throughout leaving me, not ready for the end. I’ll admit, I didn’t see that coming. Thanks, Abi. They do look good.’ I reach in and remove the cream-filled chocolate choux bun and take a bite. ‘Oh. My. God,’ I say between mouthfuls. ‘Haven’t had one of these since I was a kid. My mother used to—’ I break off. The final nail in the coffin for me was the absolutely unnecessary epilogue in which one of Jenny's children cruelly pulls the wings from a butterfly only to smash the poor thing into the table. This was supposedly to cause Jenny to wonder if the "serial killer gene" skipped a generation to "infect" her child, but due to the fact that there was a lot of talk about animal mutilations in this book just leads me to seriously wonder about the author herself. When I first saw the title, thought it was a sequel to the first book by this author, The Serial Killer’s Wife. It is not. This is another twisty tale of a family and how the evil of one affects all the lives around them. While I guessed who the killer was, still found this to be an enjoyable read and would recommend to fans of this genre!

In a sleepy Devon village, a woman is taken from the streets. Local veterinarian Jenny is horrified. This kind of thing doesn’t happen here. But it’s not the first time she’s been so close to a crime scene. The daughter of a prolific serial killer, she’s spent her whole life running from who she really is. I look at the closed door, half afraid of what I’m going to be faced with when she opens it. Then the squealing noises from downstairs remind me that I must hurry the morning routine along. I leave the bedroom and head to the kitchen, relieved at the excuse to put off confronting the reason Jen is avoiding me. Chapter 3 JENNY Jenny is horrified when a woman is taken off the streets - that sort of thing never happens here. The crime is chillingly similar to that committed by her serial killer father... but she's not her father's daughter, is she?Thank you to @netgallery, @avonbooksuk, @harpercollinsuk and @alicehunter_author for this advanced copy in return for my honest review. Morning, Jen – thank God. I was beginning to worry.’ Hayley scoots her chair out from the reception desk and stands, reaching over the counter to pass me a piece of paper. ‘These are the early morning animals in for surgery. Nisha has done the preliminaries; Vanessa is organising the operating room and I’ve booked them in.’ Her voice is clipped. This is an engaging book that really keeps you guessing with the curves and twists that are thrown in. We go along with Jenny to figure out if it is her or someone trying to frame her. There’s never a dull moment and what you think may not be it at all. Alice Hunter is a genius!! Stand up and take a bow because you are truly amazing!! Wow what a book!!! I’m unsure where to start with this one, I definitely don’t know how a written review will do this justice. The way Alice Hunter wrote the story was just amazing and very compelling. I was really rooting for Jenny but also felt she had her hand in the play of events. The story was written from three POV Jenny, Mark (Jenny’s) husband & young Jenny, this gave you a really insight to Jenny and her life both past and present.
